married by Ian’s Uncle, the Rev. G. C. Reay.

We lived in
Valonia St. Avondale and attended Owairaka Baptist Church.

In 1961 Ian
came with Kristeen and (3 weeks old) David to live in Ballarat, Victoria to
work at the Ballarat School of Mines and Industries.

Barry was
born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1963. We attended Pleasant St. Baptist Church,
Ballarat until December 1963 when Kristeen and the boys returned to Auckland.
Ian joined us for the Christmas break.

Ian returned
to Auckland to work at Auckland Technical Institute in April 1964 in the
Science Department.

He rose
early to be a course supervisor, then Head of the Science Department. Later, he
became Deputy Head of the Institute. He worked for almost 30 years at

Ian became
ill with kidney failure and later stomach and liver cancer.

We moved to
Victoria Point, Queensland on 4th June 2018 to be with our doctor
son (Barry) as both Ian and Kristeen needed Barry to care for us.

We became

  1. Thank you, Kristeen, for such a good photo display in honour of Ian and his family life – and then your joint lives and family together.
    Good memories to keep alive.
I have just finished re reading your book “A Good Shepherd” – G C Reay. I felt really connected as he was so much in my life too. Your writing covered my growing up years and so much of it was of familiar contacts and experiences.
Our love to you and your family, as you all adjust to living the years ahead, with out Ian in person, but always in your memory.
    Bob and Lyn Thompson

  2. Condolences from Ross & Carol Turner, son of (David & Lois) Te Awamutu. Ross has just finished reading the great book about Rev. Ray Turners life story. Ross can still vividly remember Uncle Ray & Aunty Janey, even though he was only about 15yrs. old holidaying at Huia. We also have spent time with Mathew & Alison Raymond in Zambia, Alison is Ian’s niece.
