Memories Of Cath
Catherine Faye Hyde was born on the 13th June 1968 in Penrith NSW the eldest child of Darryl and Marie. Cath was blessed with younger siblings Shane, Jacob and Samantha.
Cath spent her childhood years in the Hawkesbury area. There are so many fond childhood memories too many to mention in the time afforded her today. Picnics at Weeney Creek, Colo, Putty Road, Lower Portland by the Hawkesbury River and camping on weekends.,
Cath attended school at Richmond Public and then graduated to Richmond High. She was quite the athlete and enjoyed swimming and shot put. She was also proficient in art and cooking classes.
Cath loved animals. There was the family dogs Rufus and Tina. As the story goes apparently Rufus followed her home. Then there were the cats Smokey and George. And who could forget the chook Cath snuck home out from biology class because she heard that it was going to be euthanized. She love horses too.
As Cath grew she would hang out with her brother and their friends. Cath, Shane, Nathan, Kim, Cathy would all go out together swimming, adventuring, bushwalking. Cath was also very protective of her younger siblings.
She had a wicked sense of humour and was always playing tricks on her Dad and siblings.
Upon leaving school Cath started working at Coles followed by time at Enoch Taylor the boot factory and then working at Burleigh Bras as a Seamstress,
Cath loved to go and visit the Australiana Village and Nostalgia town.
As an adult she would love to reminisce over her younger years and would tell her children and family stories. She was quite nomadic and enjoyed the pool comps at the Macquarie Pub.
Cath met Roderick at the Penrith Leagues Club. Cath was out for the night and Roderick was supposed to be working there. Mingling with the guests I think he referred to it as. Cath caught his eye and he asked her for a dance. On their first date Roderick took her to Taronga Zoo. Good choice considering Cath’s love for animals.
The two were married at St Matthews Church in Windsor. Cath loved living in different places. First they moved to Londendary, then Curlewis, South Windsor where Jesse the Merry Christmas Bub was born in the Windsor hospital, followed by Bowen Mountain. Patrick and Andrew came into the world and the move to North Richmond when Christopher came along. 4 Boys all born at Windsor hospital and all loved so dearly.
Cath was definitely outnumbered. Cath loved holidays and time out with her family. She loved the beach. If there was reincarnation as her hubby said she would be a mermaid. Once Cath became a mother nothing else mattered. Her boys were her life.
Cath had such a contagious smile and laugh. She would talk about those old wives tales like throwing salt over your shoulder, touch wood, don’t walk under a ladder. With four boys you can imagine there was never a dull moment and she would often be heard saying “Behave – Leave your brother alone – Be careful”
She loved comedy like Abbott and Costello. Cath was a great baker and really like to share her cooking skills wanting to teach everyone else how to cook too. Her speciality was biscuits and cakes. And if you have been to her house you would realise she had to have all the cooking gadgets under the sun. Cath liked to experiment and try new recipes.
Cath always put others before herself. She spoke her mind. Her heart was as big as a house, but you didn’t want to piss her off. You could never say anything wrong about her boys. She was so proud of them. She was extremely loyal and had very strong family values. Family came first. Family Stuck Together. No matter what you look after one another.
These memories of who Cath was are forever. You get to keep them close to your heart and bring them to mind whenever you miss Cath.
